KLANG, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA February 27, 2026 – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), also known as the Malaysian Coast Guard, has launched Ops Pagar Laut 2026, a major annual maritime security operation aimed at safeguarding Malaysia’s waters against cross-border crimes.
The operation officially runs from February 27 to April 10, 2026. According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who conducted an on-site inspection aboard the patrol vessel KM Tun Fatimah just before breaking fast during Ramadan, the initiative deploys significant resources:
- 800 officers and personnel mobilized\
- 275 assets including ships, patrol boats, and aircraft on standby
- Round-the-clock patrols and monitoring across strategic phases (preparation through post-operation)
The minister emphasized a zero-tolerance stance, stating: “The sea is not the back door of the country.” (“Laut bukan pintu belakang negara.”)
Historical results from Ops Pagar Laut between 2020 and 2025 demonstrate the operation’s impact:
- 344 arrests recorded
- Assets worth nearly RM106.7 million seized
- 863 attempted illegal immigrant entries involving approximately 3,700 individuals successfully thwarted
The 2026 edition continues this multi-agency effort to protect national borders, prevent smuggling, human trafficking, and other transnational threats during the fasting month and beyond.
The announcement was shared via a video post by Saifuddin on X, highlighting preparations and the government’s firm commitment under the Malaysia Madani framework.
