KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 25 July 2025 – A peaceful rally, dubbed “Turun Anwar,” is set to take place tomorrow in the capital, with a call for Malaysians to gather in large numbers to express dissatisfaction with the leadership of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Mohd Yassin, Chairman of Perikatan Nasional, urged citizens to join the rally to protest what he described as the government’s failure to address critical issues, including the rising cost of living, broken promises, and the erosion of democratic freedoms.

“The Anwar-led government has not only failed to manage the country effectively but has also betrayed the promises made to the people,” Muhyiddin said in a statement today. He criticized the introduction of new taxes and subsidy cuts, which he claimed have further burdened Malaysians already grappling with economic challenges.
Muhyiddin also highlighted concerns over the suppression of free speech, alleging that ordinary citizens face threats, investigations, and prosecutions for voicing dissent against government policies. “This has sparked anger and resentment among the people,” he added.
The former prime minister dismissed recent government measures, such as a RM100 aid package and a 6-sen reduction in RON95 petrol prices, as desperate attempts to quell public discontent. “These are not genuine solutions to address the cost-of-living crisis. What the people want is a review of burdensome taxes and subsidy cuts, but this has not been done,” he stated.
Calling for calm, Muhyiddin urged the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure peace and order during the rally. He also appealed to participants to maintain decorum, adhere to the law, and avoid any actions that could disrupt public harmony.
“Participating in a peaceful rally is a right guaranteed to every Malaysian under the Federal Constitution. No one can deny this right, and we must uphold it responsibly,” he emphasized.
Muhyiddin confirmed that he, along with other Perikatan Nasional leaders, will attend the “Turun Anwar” rally tomorrow. “Let us come together in droves!” he rallied.
The event is expected to draw significant attention as public frustration mounts over economic and governance issues. Authorities have yet to comment on security arrangements for the rally.
