KLIA Aerotrain Disruptions Due to Infrastructure, Not Train System, Says Transport Minister

KUALALUMPUR, MALAYSIA. July 4, 2025 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook addressed public concerns over recent disruptions to the KLIA Aerotrain service, clarifying that the incidents were not caused by flaws in the new Aerotrain system.

This morning’s temporary suspension was triggered by a technical fault in a drainage pump within KLIA’s existing tunnel infrastructure, part of the airport’s legacy facilities. The failure led to rainwater accumulation in the tunnel, activating the Aerotrain’s safety systems to halt operations as a precaution. Services resumed at 12:15 PM after water clearance and safety checks.

On July 2, a separate pause occurred when a passenger obstructed platform doors, triggering safety features to prevent forceful closure and potential harm. Loke emphasized that both incidents reflect the new Aerotrain’s robust safety mechanisms, designed to prioritize passenger safety.

“The Aerotrain’s safety systems are functioning as intended, halting operations to mitigate risks,” Loke said, assuring the public that the new trains meet international standards and are performing well.

The Transport Ministry and Malaysia Airports are committed to resolving issues swiftly and enhancing services. Loke thanked the public for their patience during this initial phase of the Aerotrain replacement program.
