KOTA BELUD, SABAH, Malaysia – Kampung Pangkalan Abai, the birthplace of Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, took center stage today as Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail launched the Kampung Angkat MADANI (KAM) initiative, a government effort to foster closer ties with rural communities.

Located far from the hustle and bustle of urban centers, this modest village of approximately 800 residents and 200 households is set to benefit from a RM1 million allocation aimed at transforming local infrastructure, safety, and community facilities. The initiative, spearheaded by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, seeks to bring government leaders directly to the heart of rural Malaysia to listen, understand, and contribute to local needs.
“This is about being present, engaging with the people, and delivering impactful change,” Saifuddin said during the event. “Kampung Pangkalan Abai is now the Home Ministry’s adopted village under the MADANI framework, and we are committed to making a difference here.”

The minister also officiated the opening of the RELA Community Service Center and the Voluntary Patrol System (SRS) Post, bolstering village security despite its remote location. The ceremony included the distribution of essential documents such as birth certificates and identity cards, e-Kasih program approval letters, zakat assistance, a hearse van, funeral management kits, and a special allocation for SK Pangkalan Abai.
Expressing gratitude to the warm reception from villagers and the support of local agencies, Saifuddin emphasized that this marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Kampung Pangkalan Abai.
“This is not the end but the start of meaningful change for our village,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to uplifting rural communities across Malaysia.
