KUANTAN, April 28, 2026 – Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today attended the Jelajah Wira MADANI programme at the Akademi Maritim Sultan Ahmad Shah (AMSAS) here to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) personnel in safeguarding the nation’s waters.
The programme, inspired by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to give due recognition to members of the security forces for their heavy responsibilities.
Speaking at the event, Saifuddin highlighted the increasingly complex maritime security challenges facing the country, including cross-border crimes such as drug and firearms smuggling, as well as human trafficking, particularly along the strategic Strait of Malacca.
He also pointed to geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea, threats of illegal fishing, and marine pollution as issues requiring continuous vigilance from enforcement agencies.
To address these challenges, the government is committed to strengthening APMM’s capabilities through asset and technology upgrades, including the construction of two new motherships, procurement of AW189 helicopters, installation of additional radars in Sabah, and the addition of operational boats.
In addition to honouring APMM staff, the programme included community engagement efforts, where the minister presented special contributions to local orphans and schools.
“This approach sends a clear message that the strength of security forces like APMM depends not only on assets and technology but also on the support of society, communities, and educational institutions as part of the national security ecosystem,” Saifuddin said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering maritime security to preserve national sovereignty and ensure the safety of the people.
The event was also attended by members of the media.
