KOTA KINABALU, SABAH, MALAYSIA , November 12, 2025 – DAPSY National today welcomes the Unity Government’s decision not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s ruling on Sabah’s claim for 40% of state revenue rights. This decision is seen as a historic step that fully embodies the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and efforts to restore Sabah’s autonomy.
In a media statement issued today, DAPSY emphasized that the decision symbolizes the political commitment and sincerity of the Unity Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (PMX). “This represents a paradigm shift in political culture initiated by the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-backed government. The federal government has now clearly stated that negotiation processes will begin with the new Sabah state government following the Sabah State Election (PRN),” the statement asserted.
Unlike the confrontational approach of previous regimes, DAPSY praised the collaborative strategy adopted by the PH-led government this time. This approach is guided by true federalism principles, expected to strengthen relations between the federal and state governments, particularly in resource distribution, development planning, and governance. “This historic announcement will drive joint progress and open a new chapter in political relations between the federal government and Sabah,” the DAPSY statement added.
The decision is also considered timely, especially ahead of the upcoming Sabah PRN. DAPSY calls on all Sabahans to use their voting rights wisely, rejecting racial and extremist politics, and opposing politicians who exploit local party sentiments merely to seize power. “The Sabah PRN will be a crucial platform in determining significant directional changes,” it stated.
If Pakatan Harapan is given the mandate to jointly lead the Sabah state government, DAPSY is confident that autonomy negotiations will proceed smoothly. The reforms currently being pursued by the federal government can also be fully realized in Sabah, bringing stability, progress, and prosperity to the people. “The performance of the government under PMX has proven that as long as PH is given the mandate and space, the entire country – especially Sabah – is capable of stepping toward progressive reform for the people’s welfare,” the DAPSY National statement concluded.
The Unity Government’s decision has also garnered widespread attention from opposition parties and Sabah civil society, who view it as a positive sign for resolving long-standing state rights issues. The Sabah PRN is expected to determine the future direction of center-state relations, with a primary focus on restoring autonomy and inclusive development.
