KUALA LUMPUR, April 24, 2026 – The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) has declared its full support for and will participate in the “Tangkap Azam Baki” Rally scheduled for tomorrow, April 25, urging a thorough and independent investigation into allegations of corruption and abuse of power within the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a strongly worded press statement issued on April 23, DAPSY National said the recent shareholding controversy involving MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki, coupled with claims linking the agency to a “corporate mafia” scandal, has severely undermined Malaysia’s democratic institutions, governance, integrity, and the credibility of its enforcement bodies.
“If no thorough investigation is carried out, these issues will significantly erode public trust in national institutions,” the statement read.
DAPSY explicitly backs the rally’s three core demands:
- The establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe allegations of a “corporate mafia” operating within the MACC;
- A comprehensive investigation into Azam Baki, accompanied by wide-ranging institutional reforms of the anti-corruption body;
- The protection of the public’s freedom of expression on matters concerning corruption.
The youth wing stressed that the allegations go beyond individual misconduct and strike at the heart of the country’s entire anti-corruption framework.
“The public has the right to know the truth, and the government has the responsibility to provide clear answers, uphold the rule of law, and take lawful action — including investigations, suspensions, and arrests where allegations are proven,” DAPSY said.
The statement noted that although Azam Baki’s tenure is nearing its end and a new MACC chief is expected to be appointed, the controversies must not be swept aside.
“On the contrary, the authorities must carry out a comprehensive, independent, and transparent investigation into all related allegations to uncover the truth and rebuild public confidence in both the government and national institutions,” it added.
DAPSY also linked the rally to the DAP’s upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations, saying a genuine probe into corruption and abuse of power would give real meaning to the milestone and reflect the party’s long-standing fight for democracy, freedom, and justice.
In a sharp attack on the opposition, DAPSY criticised Perikatan Nasional (PN) for failing to take a clear stand on the MACC controversy and for abdicating its role as a responsible opposition.
“Instead, it continues to exploit only racial and religious issues, further dividing Malaysia’s plural society and proving itself to be the most ineffective opposition,” the statement said.
DAPSY also slammed MCA and MCA Youth for what it described as blatant hypocrisy. It accused MCA of previously defending former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak despite the 1MDB scandal, yet now having MCA Youth declare its participation in the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally.
“Their inconsistent stance and opportunistic behaviour for political gain are unlikely to impress Malaysians,” DAPSY added.
The youth wing reiterated its call for Malaysia to build a truly independent, fair, and transparent anti-corruption system, warning that any allegations of abuse of power, conflict of interest, or corruption must not be suppressed.
“DAPSY will stand with the rakyat and express its demands through peaceful assembly, urging the government to take action in upholding truth, accountability, and reform,” the statement concluded.
DAPSY said it remains committed to defending democracy and the rule of law while working towards a cleaner political environment and stronger national institutions.
