JOHOR BAHRU July 10, 2026 — Federal Minister and DAP leader Steven Sim Chee Keong stressed his party’s unwavering adherence to the Malaysian Constitution during a nighttime Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign event in Johor, just one day before the state election.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Sim, who serves as Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development and MP for Bukit Mertajam, declared: “DAP junjung perlembagaan” (“DAP upholds the Constitution”). The roughly 79-second clip shows him addressing supporters wearing red PH vests at an outdoor gathering near shops and campaign banners, including references to the Bukit Batu constituency.
The appearance forms part of PH’s final push in the 2026 Johor state election, scheduled for July 11. PH — comprising PKR, Amanah, and DAP — is contesting all 56 seats against the incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) government led by Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. DAP is fielding 17 candidates as part of the coalition’s “Johor Ke Depan, Undi Harapan, Johor Untuk Semua” campaign slogan, which emphasizes progress and inclusivity for all.
Sim’s remarks align with PH’s broader messaging on constitutional fidelity, multi-ethnic cooperation, and rejecting divisive politics ahead of polling day. The post, which included hashtags such as #prnjohor, #johorkedepan, and #pakatanharapan, quickly circulated among supporters as campaigning entered its final hours.
The Johor polls are widely viewed as an important test for the federal Madani government and opposition dynamics in one of Malaysia’s most economically significant states.
