KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 2026 – A 24-year-old bank officer was charged in court today with three offences, including dangerous driving that caused the death of a five-year-old girl in a multi-vehicle accident along Jalan Kuching last Saturday.
Raeven Goh Wey Haur pleaded not guilty to all charges before Magistrate Aliaa Anwar.
He is accused of driving a BYD Seal in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Asiah Ahmad Syahir, under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If convicted, he faces a minimum of five years’ imprisonment and not more than 10 years, a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for not less than 10 years from the date of conviction.
The second charge, under Section 42(1) of the same Act, alleges he drove the same vehicle dangerously, taking into account the prevailing traffic conditions. This carries a maximum of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of not less than RM15,000, and driving disqualification for not less than five years.
The third charge is for failing to stop after being involved in a road accident, under Section 52(1), which is punishable by a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, if convicted.
All three offences are alleged to have occurred at 3.44pm on Oct 10 along Jalan Kuching, travelling from the city centre towards Jalan Segambut.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry proposed bail of RM50,000 with one surety, citing the seriousness of the case. He also requested that the accused surrender his passport to the court and that his driving licence be suspended with immediate effect until the case is concluded.
Defence counsel Khailash Sharma sought lower bail, stating that the family had cooperated with police by lodging a report within 24 hours of the incident. The proposed surety is the accused’s 55-year-old businessman father.
The court fixed bail at RM36,000 with one surety for all three charges and imposed the additional conditions requested by the prosecution. The case has been fixed for mention on Nov 19.
Family members of the victim were present in court, accompanied by observing counsel Nur A’minahtul Mardiah Md Nor.
The five-year-old girl, who was a passenger in a Perodua Bezza, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The accident, which involved six vehicles, is believed to have occurred when the BYD Seal rear-ended the Bezza, which was moving slowly in traffic from the city centre towards Segambut. The impact also involved a motorcycle. The Bezza then spun into the right lane and collided with a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard and a Perodua Myvi.
The Bezza driver, who is the victim’s father, and the motorcyclist were also injured in the incident.
