KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA Dec 15, 2025– Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today officiated the Completion Ceremony of the Seri Negara Restoration, a historical monument that has witnessed several key chapters in the long journey of nation-building in Malaysia.
In his speech, Anwar emphasised that mastering new technologies as a driver of national progress must go hand-in-hand with efforts to strengthen national identity, elevate history, and preserve local cultural heritage.
“The restoration of historical buildings such as Seri Negara, along with the Kuala Lumpur Heritage Project (Warisan KL), reflects the Government’s commitment to revitalising national heritage assets as catalysts for the economy, community empowerment, and city identity building,” Anwar said in his social media post.
He added that this initiative is not mere empty rhetoric or just a physical effort to preserve historical remnants, but part of a larger vision to shape a city that is clean, advanced, eco-friendly, and soulful.
The MADANI Government, Anwar stressed, will continue to ensure that urban development does not produce cities that are “culturally barren,” but instead flourish as sustainable, green environments centred on humanistic values for the well-being of the people and the future of the nation.
Seri Negara, part of the Carcosa Seri Negara complex, is a colonial-era historical building that once served as an official residence and witnessed significant events, such as the signing of the Federation of Malaya Agreement in 1957. Its restoration project is part of the broader Warisan KL initiative, involving significant investment to revive the historical city centre as a hub for creativity and culture.
The ceremony marks another step by the government in balancing modern progress with the preservation of national identity.
