SEPANG, November 3 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the winners and all the riders who took part in the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia 2026, as the MotoGP weekend at the Sepang International Circuit came to a close.
In a post on his X account on Sunday (November 1), Anwar said the event had been lively and full of suspense as the world’s best riders battled it out at Sepang. He said many memorable moments had been created throughout this year’s edition.
“Congratulations to all the winners and riders who took part,” he wrote. He also thanked the officials, organisers, volunteers and fans for their efforts and support in making the event a success.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the excitement and spirit of motorsport such as MotoGP would continue to inspire more young people to bring glory to Malaysia’s name. He ended his post with: “See you again at Sepang!”
The main race on Sunday was won by Marc Marquez, who took a dominant victory over 20 laps to move closer to the 2026 world title, according to the official MotoGP website. Pedro Acosta finished second and Alex Marquez third.
The victory, according to MotoGP, earned Marquez a “match point” for the 2026 championship heading into the remaining rounds of the season. Results published by Motorsport.com showed he completed the race in 40 minutes 14.236 seconds, 4.172 seconds clear of Acosta.
Photographs shared with Anwar’s post showed the Prime Minister on the grid at Sepang, waving to the crowd in the packed grandstands alongside officials.
Anwar spent time at the circuit during the race weekend. He met MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta to exchange views on the development of the sport, and greeted holders of MADANI MotoGP tickets at the K2 Hillstand.
He also met the country’s young riders, including Hakim Danish, Qabil Irfan, Qayyim Razin and Naqib Rifqi, and spoke to recipients of free helmets under a Ministry of Transport initiative carried out by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Anwar has previously said the Malaysian round should bring wider benefits beyond the race track, including attracting more tourists, opening business opportunities and boosting the local economy.
During his visit, Anwar also congratulated Hakim Danish on his finish in the Moto3 class, and encouraged motorcyclists to make proper use of the free helmets they received, saying road safety must remain a priority for riders across the country.
Marquez’s win at Sepang came over 20 laps, with his younger brother Alex completing the podium behind Acosta, according to the official results. The Prime Minister’s post was written in Malay.
In his post, Anwar said he hoped the spirit of the event would carry beyond the race weekend and continue to motivate young Malaysians, both on and off the track.
The race weekend also featured Moto3 and Moto2 events, giving Malaysian fans a chance to watch home riders compete in front of their own supporters.
His post carried the hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI and #YakinMADANI.
