KUALA LUMPUR, July 19, 2026 — Angkatan Muda Harapan (AMH) on Sunday urged all Barisan Nasional (BN) ministers and deputy ministers to resign from the Unity Government Cabinet following BN’s open cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
In a joint media statement, AMH said BN’s willingness to work openly with PN proves the coalition does not appreciate the trust and positions given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PMX) in the Unity Government. Instead, AMH claimed, BN is prioritising narrow, short-term political manoeuvres.
The youth coalition particularly criticised a public statement by BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that voter support for BN and PN candidates at the state level serves as a testing ground for a formula that could potentially be applied nationally ahead of the 16th General Election (PRU16).
“This admission by the BN Chairman shows that the BN-PN cooperation is no longer temporary or tactical, but rather preparation for a new political alignment that raises serious questions about BN’s commitment to the Unity Government,” the statement said.
AMH noted that Pakatan Harapan (PH) had still allocated EXCO positions to BN in the PH-led state governments of Penang and Selangor after the 2023 state elections out of respect for the spirit of the Unity Government. Despite this, it said, BN has repeatedly tested the patience of its partners.
Quoting the proverb “Tamak hilang malu, loba dapat kebiasaan” (greed causes one to lose shame; avarice becomes habit), AMH accused BN of no longer valuing cooperation with PH even while holding the Deputy Prime Minister’s post, several ministerial portfolios and other key positions.
AMH called for the immediate resignation of all BN ministers and deputy ministers so that BN can focus fully on strengthening its political cooperation with PN without affecting the administration of the Federal Government. Such a move, it said, would reduce public confusion over BN’s “talam dua muka” (two-faced) approach, allow the “new BN-PN formula” to be pursued openly, and lower the risk of any attempt to “menebuk atap” (undermine the government from within) that could threaten the stability of the Unity Government.
This would free the government to concentrate fully on strengthening the economy, attracting investment and improving the people’s welfare, AMH added.
“The people want a government that focuses on economic development, strengthening unity and enhancing the people’s wellbeing, not a party that constantly plays racial and religious politics for narrow interests,” the statement concluded.
The joint statement was issued by Ammar Atan, AMH Information Chief and National AMANAH Youth Vice Chief; YB Ho Chi Yang, DAPSY National Publicity Secretary; Danish Hairudin, Angkatan Muda Keadilan Information Chief; and Syazana Nasir, WARDA Communications Bureau Director.
