CYBERJAYA, November 3, 2026 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has opened an investigation paper into content uploaded through the Facebook account “Vikke Lee”, which is suspected of insulting the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.
In a media statement issued today, MCMC said the content was suspected of containing extremely offensive elements and of touching on the sensitivities of race, religion and royalty, commonly known as 3R, directed at His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor.
The commission said a statement was recorded at the Sri Petaling Police Station to assist in the investigation. One mobile phone and one SIM card were also seized.
A photograph released by MCMC alongside the statement shows its officer recording the statement of the individual concerned. The image was described by the commission as MCMC taking the individual’s statement to help with the investigation.
Investigation under Act 588
According to MCMC, the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588].
If found guilty, the individual involved may be liable to a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, the statement said.
The commission did not name the person behind the “Vikke Lee” account in its statement. It also did not say when the content was uploaded, what exactly it contained, or whether it remains accessible on Facebook. The statement did not mention any arrest or charge, and described the matter as an investigation that is still under way.
The statement was issued by MCMC Corporate Communications and carried a Cyberjaya dateline of November 3, 2026.
Royal institution and social harmony
MCMC stressed that it takes a firm view of online material that targets the royal institution.
“MCMC views seriously the spread of online content suspected of containing false information or insulting elements against the royal institution, particularly content that could affect harmony in society,” the statement said.
The commission’s concern, as set out in the statement, covers both false information and content that insults the royal institution, with particular attention to material that could undermine harmony among the public.
Reminder to social media users
MCMC also used the statement to issue a reminder to the public about their conduct online.
“The public is reminded to use social media platforms responsibly and not to produce or spread content that violates the laws of the country,” it said.
The reminder covers both producing and spreading such content, so it applies to users who share material as well as to those who first create it.
In summary, the investigation centres on content posted by the Facebook account “Vikke Lee” that MCMC suspects of insulting the Sultan of Selangor and touching on 3R sensitivities. A statement has been recorded at the Sri Petaling Police Station, a mobile phone and a SIM card have been seized, and the case is being investigated under Section 233 of Act 588, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in prison, or both upon conviction.
