KUALA LUMPUR, October 27, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof made time on Tuesday evening, October 27, to visit one of his police escort officers in hospital, shortly after wrapping up a long day in Parliament.
Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), said he called on Sergeant Mohamad Gusman, a member of his police escort detail, who is currently facing a health challenge and receiving treatment at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital.
“After winding up the debate in the Dewan Rakyat late this afternoon, I had the opportunity to visit my police escort, Sergeant Mohamad Gusman, whose health is currently being tested and who is undergoing treatment at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital,” Fadillah shared on X, in remarks translated from Malay.
He added that he was praying for Mohamad as the officer continues his treatment. Fadillah did not disclose the nature of the sergeant’s illness.
A quiet visit after a long day in Parliament
A photograph shared with the post shows Fadillah, wearing a white shirt and a face mask, standing at the bedside of the sergeant, who is seated upright in a hospital bed in a patient’s gown, with an intravenous drip stand beside him. The hospital’s name can be seen on a sign above the bed.
The visit came only hours after Fadillah wound up the policy-stage debate on the Supply Bill 2027 for his ministry in the Dewan Rakyat. In that winding-up speech, he set out how PETRA’s RM5.33 billion allocation under Budget 2027 would be used for flood mitigation, clean and continuous water supply, electricity tariffs and the national grid, and the push towards renewable energy.
The winding-up stage is one of the busiest points of the parliamentary budget calendar for ministers, who must respond in detail to the views, criticism and suggestions raised by members of Parliament before the House moves on to the committee stage, where each ministry’s allocation is examined line by line.
The officers behind the scenes
Police escort officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) accompany senior government leaders on official duties, travelling with them to Parliament, ministry engagements and events around the country. Their work often keeps them close to the leaders they protect for long hours, but it rarely draws public attention.
Fadillah’s decision to share the visit publicly put a spotlight on one of those officers, and on the personal bond that can form between leaders and the people who serve alongside them every day.
