KUALA LUMPUR, October 27 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof has called on three newly appointed Malaysian heads of mission to explore cooperation in green energy technology and help local businesses break into new international markets as they prepare to take up their overseas postings.
Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, received a courtesy call from the three envoys at Parliament on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
They were Malaysian High Commissioner to Canada John K. Samuel, Malaysian Ambassador to Belgium Shaiful Anuar Mohammad and Malaysian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran Datuk Wan Aznainizam Yusri Wan Abdul Rashid, all of whom are set to begin their duties at their respective stations.
In a post on his X account, Fadillah said that among the messages he shared with the diplomats was the need to explore opportunities for cooperation in green energy technology and to promote local products in international markets.
“Among the messages shared was to explore opportunities for cooperation in green energy technology, promote local products in international markets and help local entrepreneurs and industry players penetrate strategic new markets, thereby enhancing Malaysia’s competitiveness at the global level,” he wrote.
He also extended his best wishes to the three heads of mission as they assume their new roles.
“Best of luck and continue to excel in carrying out your trust, strengthening diplomacy and bringing honour to Malaysia’s name on the world stage,” Fadillah said, adding the hashtags #MadaniBekerja and #MalaysiaMadani.
Photographs shared with the post show Fadillah posing with the three envoys at Parliament, as well as the group in discussion around a meeting table at the Deputy Prime Minister’s office in the Parliament building.
The three diplomats received their letters of appointment from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at a ceremony held at the Singgahsana Kecil (Small Throne Room) of Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on October 19, 2026, according to Bernama.
At the same ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim also received the letters of credence of 18 foreign heads of mission to Malaysia, 13 of whom will be resident in the country while the remaining five will serve on a non-resident basis.
Fadillah’s emphasis on green energy reflects his portfolio as the minister overseeing Malaysia’s energy transition and water transformation agenda. By urging the new envoys to seek out partnerships in green technology, he signalled that Malaysia’s missions abroad are expected to play a role in drawing expertise and investment that can support the country’s shift towards cleaner energy.
The call to promote local products and help Malaysian entrepreneurs enter new markets also underlines the economic dimension of the country’s diplomacy, with heads of mission increasingly expected to act as advocates for Malaysian trade and industry in their host countries.
The three postings span North America, Europe and West Asia, giving Malaysia’s new envoys a broad reach as they seek to strengthen bilateral ties and open doors for Malaysian businesses.
