Crash on the East-West Highway
According to Kosmo, the celebrity preacher was travelling with several members of his staff when the accident took place on the East-West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur Barat, JRTB) near Tasik Banding. Newswav reported that the crash happened near Air Banun at Tasik Banding, and that, based on early information, it is believed to have involved a collision between the vehicle carrying Wadi Annuar and another vehicle.
News of the accident was first shared on the preacher’s own social media accounts. “Dukacita dimaklumkan bahawa Ustaz Wadi Annuar bersama beberapa orang staf terbabit dalam kemalangan sewaktu dalam perjalanan di Gerik, Perak,” read the post on his Facebook page, as quoted by Harian Metro, which translates as “We regret to inform that Ustaz Wadi Annuar, together with several staff members, was involved in an accident while travelling in Gerik, Perak.” The post asked the public, on this blessed Friday, to pray for the safety and well-being of the preacher and everyone involved. A similar message was posted on his official Threads account, Kosmo reported.
Reported stable, taken for X-rays
In an update shared on Facebook by Mohd Amir Faizal and reported by Newswav, the preacher was described as stable. “Alhamdulillah, keadaan Ustaz Wadi Anuar dilaporkan stabil. Beliau masih sedar dan boleh bercakap, namun mengadu mengalami kesakitan di bahagian dada dan perut,” the update said, which translates as “Alhamdulillah, Ustaz Wadi Anuar’s condition is reported to be stable. He is still conscious and able to speak, but has complained of pain in his chest and abdomen.” He was also said to be suffering pain in his knee.
Newswav added that another ustaz travelling with him also suffered a knee injury, and that both men were taken for X-ray examinations at Gerik Hospital. Harian Metro likewise reported that Wadi Annuar was receiving treatment at the hospital for pain in his abdomen and chest, and that he was in a stable condition. However, a victim from the other vehicle was reported to be unstable and unconscious and was still being treated in hospital, according to Newswav. Alor Mengkudu assemblyman Radhi Mat Din also shared news of the accident on his Facebook page.
It is not the first time the preacher has been hurt on the road. In January 2018, Wadi Annuar was seriously injured in a crash on the North-South Expressway near Bagan Serai, Perak, in which a fellow young preacher, Ustaz Murtadha, later died, according to earlier reports by MalaysiaGazette and Iluminasi. He was treated for a fractured right shoulder and returned to deliver religious talks after leaving hospital.
As of this morning, no official statement on the cause of the latest accident had been issued by the police, and Anwar did not provide further details of the incident in his post.
