KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 2026 — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) will be given authority to access the closed-circuit television (CCTV) control room of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), as part of efforts to tighten security at the country’s main entry point.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the arrangement had been discussed with MAHB and agreement on the mechanism had been reached, although implementation remains at the administrative stage.
He told the Dewan Rakyat that airport controls sit more fully with MAHB, which operates more than 5,000 CCTV cameras across KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
“MAHB has its own control room, but it must be remembered that MAHB’s interest is the passengers. So the emphasis on security is still not fully under its control,” he said during the question-and-answer session today.
He was replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) on how far the National Immigration Command Centre (NICC) provides security information and intelligence so that authorities can act earlier against threats at airports.
Saifuddin Nasution said AKPS would also add CCTV cameras at locations identified as blind spots, to reinforce the existing system at KLIA.
On the recent viral video involving AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, he said the leak of internal KLIA CCTV footage is among the matters under police scrutiny.
The Criminal Investigation Department is due to submit a preliminary report to the Attorney-General’s Chambers today, so that a decision can be made on whether the investigation papers are complete or further action is required.
“How is it possible that immediately after the incident, the footage then spread widely? If the source is the 5,000 CCTVs, that means the matter is under MAHB’s control.
“Did the leak start there, or did it lead to a secondary recording and so on? That is also an aspect now being focused on by the investigation committee,” he said.
