SEPANG October 1, 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke by telephone with Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, during a survey of the Sepang International Circuit on Thursday, sharing updates on preparations for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Grand Prix Bahrain in Malaysia 2026.
In a post on his official X account, Anwar said the conversation took place in the course of his circuit survey. “Di sela-sela tinjauan di Litar Antarabangsa Sepang, saya sempat bercakap dengan Putera Mahkota merangkap Perdana Menteri Bahrain, Putera Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, bagi berkongsi perkembangan persiapan penganjuran Formula 1 Gulf Air Grand Prix Bahrain di Malaysia 2026,” he wrote.
He also expressed appreciation for the close cooperation between Malaysia and Bahrain in staging the event, noting that preparations were being carried out intensively to welcome fans and visitors from around the world. Anwar said he looked forward to meeting the Crown Prince in Malaysia in the coming days, God willing, as both sides continue to strengthen friendship between the two countries.
The telephone exchange came during the same day as an earlier Sepang visit Anwar documented in a separate X post. He said he had toured the circuit to review preparations for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Grand Prix Bahrain in Malaysia 2026, which he noted would begin the following day. During that visit he spent time greeting Formula 1 fans who took part in a pit lane walk, and met volunteers and personnel working to ensure arrangements ran smoothly and safely.
Anwar credited the close partnership between Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in making the hosting possible. He thanked the organising team, staff and volunteers for their commitment to seeing every aspect of the event carried out in an orderly and safe manner, and expressed hope that the Grand Prix would proceed smoothly, leave meaningful memories for fans and visitors, and elevate Malaysia’s standing on the world motorsport stage.
The remarks form part of MADANI Government outreach on sports diplomacy and international event hosting. Anwar’s posts carried hashtags including #MalaysiaMADANI, #DiplomasiMADANI, #YakinMADANI and #F1.
