SUBANG JAYA, Sept 10 2026 — Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah last night graced the special screening of the documentary TEKAD: Ekspedisi Guthrie Everest 2026 at a cinema in Subang Jaya.
The film follows two Malaysian climbers, Mohd Khafiz Bachok, 47, better known as Kicok, and Chew Wei Ngor, 56, also known as Margaret, as they tested their physical and mental limits in pursuit of the world’s highest peak.
Before the screening, Her Royal Highness was presented with the Jalur Gemilang that Mohd Khafiz raised on the summit of Mount Everest, together with a copy of his book Misi K2: Pendakian Ironman Malaysia ke Puncak Gunung Paling Berbahaya di Dunia.
Also present were Ministry of Communications Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communication and Creative Industry) Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil and SD Guthrie Berhad Group Chief Human Capital Officer Shahrizan Aini Shamsul Khalil.
Produced by Rack Focus Films and Red Communications and directed by Ahmad Yazid, the documentary examines the physical and mental strain faced by the expedition team in the extreme conditions of the Himalayas.
Marwan Murshid served as director of photography, with the production crew following the team as far as Everest Base Camp. Footage of Mohd Khafiz’s climb beyond base camp was recorded by the climber himself and his accompanying Sherpa.
The team spent more than 40 days at Everest Base Camp, about 5,300 metres above sea level, in temperatures that plunged to nearly minus 25 degrees Celsius. They also contended with high-altitude health complications and unpredictable mountain weather.
One of the most dangerous stretches was the Khumbu Icefall, an unstable glacier that climbers must cross on the way to the summit.
Mohd Khafiz reached the summit after a final 12-hour push, despite deteriorating health and wind gusts of up to 40 kilometres per hour. Margaret reached Camp Four at about 8,000 metres before severe congestion on the summit route forced her to turn back.
TEKAD: Ekspedisi Guthrie Everest 2026 will air exclusively on Astro Channel 100 at 8pm on Sept 13, in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
