KOTA KINABALU, Sept 10 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a brief meeting with the KEADILAN (PKR) Sabah State Leadership Council (MPN) on Thursday to discuss current issues, with a focus on the welfare of Sabahans and the party’s role in government.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, said the party must continue playing a key part in strengthening both federal and state administrations while ensuring policies and initiatives deliver real benefits to the people. He called on members to close ranks, draw support from all segments of society, and stay close to the aspirations of Sabah residents.
“The party must also move with the strength of all its members… At the same time, preparations for the machinery to face the upcoming General Election must be streamlined from now with unity and clear determination,” Anwar said in a social media post after the meeting. He added that KEADILAN Sabah should remain a force carrying the people’s voice and advancing reform.
The gathering formed part of Anwar’s two-day working visit to Sabah. He arrived in Kota Kinabalu on Thursday evening and is scheduled to chair the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting on Friday, where Sabah and Sarawak leaders are expected to raise issues including revenue entitlements and parliamentary representation.
Photos from the session showed Anwar in a conference room with Sabah party leaders, interacting informally over refreshments and posing for a group photograph.
Malaysia’s next general election, GE16, must be held by February 2028 unless Parliament is dissolved earlier. Anwar’s remarks signal early organisational work by PKR in East Malaysia ahead of that contest.
