PM Anwar to deliver National Day address at PICC tomorrow, announce initiatives for people’s daily lives
PUTRAJAYA Aug 29, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will deliver the Amanat Perdana Hari Kebangsaan 2026 tomorrow afternoon at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), where he is expected to announce several key initiatives addressing public concerns.
In a post on X on Saturday, Anwar said the address would reflect on nearly seven decades since independence. “We remember the struggles and sacrifices of previous generations who pioneered it with sweat, blood and tears, before we reflect on the responsibilities of today’s generation in filling and giving meaning to independence,” he wrote.
He added that he would unveil important measures touching on the worries and everyday lives of Malaysians. The speech will be broadcast live on all local media channels.
Anwar also called on the public to celebrate National Day by strengthening unity and rejecting incitement of hatred between races and religions, in the interest of national security and people’s well-being. The post carried the hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI, #YakinMADANI and #AmanatPerdana.
The event was originally planned as an outdoor programme at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur. It was relocated indoors to PICC due to haze affecting air quality in several states, a decision taken to protect the health, safety and comfort of guests and the public.
A promotional graphic shared by Anwar lists the time as 3pm on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The Ministry of National Unity later indicated a 2pm start for the ceremony.
The 69th National Day celebrations carry the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”. The main parade is scheduled for 31 August at Dataran Putrajaya, with more than 80,000 people expected to attend, subject to weather and air-quality assessments.
Anwar has previously urged Malaysians to pray for the haze to ease so that both National Day and Malaysia Day events can proceed smoothly.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver the National Day address at PICC.
The Putrajaya International Convention Centre will host the relocated indoor ceremony.
