PUTRAJAYA, Aug 19 2026 — Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong on Wednesday presented two of his books to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, including a long-delayed biography of a local Penang pioneer and a new account of the Gig Workers Act.
Sim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam, shared photos of the handover on social media. He noted that Heart of Service, his biography of Dr M.P.L. Yegappan, had been ready for two years before he finally had the chance to give a copy to the Prime Minister.
“Buku Heart of Service ni dah dua tahun terperam. Hari ni baru sempat nak bagi PMX,” Sim wrote, tagging Anwar.
The book chronicles the life of Dr Yegappan, a Bukit Mertajam native who made significant contributions to Penang. Yegappan was the first elected chairman of the Bukit Mertajam Town Council, later served as a state executive councillor, and played a role in the early development of the state, including proposing the establishment of what became Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Alongside the biography, Sim also presented his latest work, Invisible No More. The book details the behind-the-scenes process of drafting the Gig Workers Act (Akta Pekerja Gig) during his earlier tenure at the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA).
“Tak mau pisang berbuah dua kali, saya bagi sekali buku terbaharu saya, Invisible No More, tentang behind the scenes penggubalan Akta Pekerja Gig semasa saya di KESUMA,” he said.
Sim highlighted that the foreword to Invisible No More was written by Anwar himself. “Nasib baik kali ni PMX tak payah tunggu dua tahun nak baca tulisan dia,” he added with a light-hearted remark.
Both titles are available at Gerak Budaya bookstores. Sim encouraged the public to read them, writing: “Kalau nampak dua buku ni, Baca Teruih!”
The presentation underscores Sim’s continued focus on documenting local history and labour policy reforms under the Madani government.
