TEHRAN August 18, 2026 — Iran on Wednesday rejected the United Arab Emirates’ assertion that two ballistic missiles were launched from Iranian territory toward the Gulf country, describing the claim as “baseless” and contrary to principles of good neighborliness.
The UAE Ministry of Defense stated late Tuesday that its air defense systems detected the missiles, which it said were aimed at maritime navigation. One missile fell outside UAE territorial waters while the second landed inside them; both ended up in the sea. The ministry stressed the UAE’s readiness to confront any threats.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei issued a firm denial, saying the accusation disrupted regional efforts to build trust and prevent further insecurity. He urged neighboring countries to avoid unfounded claims, attributing the broader regional tensions to “malicious acts” by the United States and Israel.
In response to the reported incident, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it had suspended all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, citing escalating regional developments that undermine peace and security.
The episode marks the latest flashpoint in the ongoing Middle East conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. It comes amid heightened concerns over shipping routes in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. No casualties or damage on land were reported.
