PUTRAJAYA, 4 August 2026 — The Director General of Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia, Erwin Khairul Ahmad, said today that the country’s internet network is becoming more stable, faster and more reliable for Malaysians through ongoing upgrades under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) accompanied by a short video, Erwin stated that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) continues to strengthen national communication infrastructure by upgrading fibre-optic cables, creating alternative routes, conducting 24/7 monitoring, and improving the security of critical facilities.
The video features a speaker explaining how network capacity is being increased and how authorities are addressing common disruptions such as fibre-optic cable cuts through better redundancy systems and round-the-clock surveillance of communication sites.
JENDELA, launched in 2020, is Malaysia’s national digital connectivity plan aimed at expanding high-speed broadband and preparing the country for advanced 5G services. Phase 1 of the programme is nearing completion, while Phase 2 (JENDELA 2) is focusing on extending coverage to more rural and remote areas, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
The statement comes as MCMC continues efforts to reduce digital gaps and ensure consistent internet access across the country.
