TAMPA, FLORIDA July 15, 2026 — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late on July 15, 2026, that it had completed an evening wave of precision strikes against Iranian military sites. The operation ended at 9 p.m. ET.
According to the official statement, U.S. forces targeted Iranian command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities. The strikes aimed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels and mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Precision munitions were used against targets in multiple locations, including Bandar Abbas.
Earlier the same day, U.S. forces conducted a separate 90-minute wave of strikes on coastal defense and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island.
“The U.S. military is holding Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” CENTCOM stated.

This latest round is part of a series of U.S. military actions in the region throughout July 2026. CENTCOM has described the operations as responses to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which a significant portion of global oil trade passes.
Previous rounds have targeted similar Iranian capabilities, including missile and drone sites, naval assets, and coastal defenses. U.S. officials have stated that the goal is to protect freedom of navigation and deter threats to international commerce. Commercial vessel transits through the strait have continued despite the tensions.
The U.S. has also reimposed aspects of a naval presence and blockade measures around Iranian ports in recent days as part of these efforts.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints. Any disruption there can have immediate global economic effects on energy prices and shipping. U.S. statements emphasize that the precision nature of the strikes is intended to minimize broader impacts while addressing specific threats.
CENTCOM has not released detailed battle damage assessments or casualty figures in the initial announcement. Iranian authorities have not issued an immediate detailed public response to this specific evening wave as of early July 16.
This remains a developing situation. Further updates are expected from official U.S. military channels.
