BATU PAHAT July 9, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim made a campaign stop in Dun Senggarang, Batu Pahat, on Thursday evening to lend his support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Onn Abu Bakar ahead of the Johor state election.
In a post on X, Anwar highlighted the energetic turnout from the multi-ethnic community in the area. He wrote:
“Malam ini turun ke Dun Senggarang memberi dukungan kepada calon Pakatan Harapan saudara Onn Abu Bakar. Alhamdulillah, semangat warga Batu Pahat berbilang kaum yang ikut serta cukup bertenaga dan pastinya mengundang keterujaaan.”
He ended the post with the coalition’s campaign message: “Johor Ke Depan. Undi HARAPAN🔺🚩” along with the hashtags #HARAPAN #MemaknaiHARAPANrakyat #YakinHARAPAN.
The visit forms part of PH’s ground campaign in the 16th Johor state election, scheduled for July 11, 2026. Onn Abu Bakar, the incumbent MP for Batu Pahat and a PKR leader, is contesting the Senggarang (N24) state seat under the PH banner.
Anwar’s appearance underscored PH’s push to win over voters in the southern state, with the Prime Minister noting the vibrant and diverse crowd that participated in the event. The post was accompanied by photos showing a lively rally atmosphere with supporters gathered for the campaign programme.
The Johor election is being closely watched as a test for the unity government led by Anwar, with PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) contesting all seats in a competitive field.
PH has positioned Onn Abu Bakar as a strong local candidate with parliamentary experience in Batu Pahat, aiming to strengthen the coalition’s presence in Johor.
