KUALA LUMPUR, June 6, 2026 – Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur has arrested 78 illegal immigrants (PATI) in a coordinated enforcement operation codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’ in the Jalan Klang Lama area today.
The operation was launched following public complaints and ongoing intelligence reports regarding the heavy presence of foreigners in the vicinity, which had raised concerns among local residents.
Most of those detained are believed to have committed various immigration offences, including failing to possess valid travel documents, overstaying their visas, and misusing social visit passes to work illegally in the country.
During the raid, JIM enforcement teams sealed off strategic locations around several business premises and residential areas to prevent any escape attempts. The surprise tactic effectively closed off all possible escape routes.
On-site inspections involved thorough document verification and biometric checks on every individual stopped. Although some foreigners attempted to hide in tight spaces to evade arrest, immigration officers quickly foiled those efforts.
As a result of the comprehensive checks, 78 individuals who could not produce valid identification were classified as suspects and arrested. The detainees comprise nationals from Indonesia, Myanmar, and India.
All those arrested have been taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further documentation and investigation. The cases are being probed under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
JIM WPKL stressed that monitoring and similar operations will continue without compromise. The department also issued a stern warning to any individuals or employers found harbouring or hiring illegal immigrants, stating that strict legal action will be taken against them.
