MENGKUANG TITI, PENANG May 26, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the DNA Faisal Halim Football Academy today, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots football development and unearth young national talents.
The academy, located in Mengkuang Titi, Penang, honours Malaysian footballer Faisal Halim, who made a remarkable recovery following a horrific acid attack in 2024. Faisal, known for his resilience, has since returned to professional football with Selangor FC and the national team, making him an inspiring figure for the youth.
Speaking at the launch, Anwar emphasised that the academy goes beyond physical training. “This academy is not merely a place for training, but a platform to instil discipline, fighting spirit, and self-confidence among our youths,” he said. He added that it aims to nurture values such as hard work, good manners, and strong commitment.
Anwar expressed hope that the initiative would produce more talented young players capable of elevating Malaysia’s reputation on the international stage. The project aligns with the Malaysia MADANI framework, focusing on holistic youth development through sports.
During the event, Anwar interacted warmly with young participants, joining them in group photos, high-fives, and team-building moments on the academy’s turf. He also unveiled academy jerseys, including one personalised with his name and the number 10, alongside a jersey dedicated to Faisal Halim. The jerseys featured motivational designs and messages like “Pray for Gaza.”
Photos from the launch show enthusiastic young players in football kits surrounding the Prime Minister, highlighting the community-driven spirit of the academy.
This initiative is seen as a significant step in Malaysia’s long-term sports development strategy, investing in the next generation to build a stronger football ecosystem from the ground up.
Insya-Allah, this academy will inspire many more success stories like Faisal Halim’s.
