KUALA LUMPUR, May 19, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today celebrated Malaysia’s national athletes at the Anugerah Sukan Negara 2025, praising their discipline, sacrifices, and achievements that have elevated the country’s global standing.
In his speech and accompanying social media post, Anwar emphasised that honouring the athletes goes beyond recognising medals and victories. “Behind every medal and success are sweat, tears, and immense sacrifices that deserve the respect of all Malaysians,” he stated.
The Prime Minister highlighted sports as a powerful unifying force in a diverse nation. “In a world often filled with differences and disputes, sports unite us all. When Malaysia steps onto the field, there is only one shared spirit and hope,” he added. He stressed that sports cannot be separated from society, as broad participation fosters national strength and excellence.
Despite ongoing economic challenges, the MADANI government remains committed to sports development and athletes’ welfare. Anwar gave a firm assurance that funding for sports activities and athlete well-being will not be cut. “The government will continue to ensure that sports development and the welfare of our athletes are preserved to the best extent possible,” he said.
The ceremony, held at Casa 4, Majlis Sukan Negara, recognised outstanding performers across various categories for their contributions in 2025. Anwar congratulated all award recipients and urged athletes to keep pushing boundaries, noting that the rakyat stands firmly behind them.
The event underscores the government’s view of sports not only as a pathway to international glory but also as a cornerstone for building a resilient, inclusive, and high-performing society under the Malaysia MADANI vision.
