JOHOR BAHRU, May 18 2026 — Senior Political Advisor to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, emphasised that true politics goes beyond grand stage performances, with the ultimate priority being the welfare of the people (rakyat).
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) following the Pakatan Harapan (PH) 2026 Convention, Tengku Zafrul highlighted the coalition’s unwavering focus on national stability, economic strengthening, and improving the people’s well-being.
“Politik bukan sekadar pentas. Akhirnya, yang paling penting ialah rakyat,” he posted, accompanied by photos from the event.
The one-day convention, themed Tekad MADANI, Harapan Rakyat, took place at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre and gathered around 5,000 delegates and leaders from across the country. Prime Minister and PH Chairman Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered the keynote address, touching on key issues including the cost of living, job opportunities, education for children, and the nation’s economic future.
Tengku Zafrul, who attended the event, stressed that the government’s work remains ongoing. “Kerja kita belum selesai. Yang penting, terus turun, terus dengar dan terus bekerja untuk rakyat,” he said, ending with “Insya-Allah.”
The convention serves as a platform to strategise ahead of the Johor and Melaka state elections, as well as the 16th General Election (GE16), amid discussions on coalition unity and potential snap polls.
Tengku Zafrul, who also chairs the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), has been a key figure in promoting economic policies under the Madani government.
