KUDAT, SABAH May 9, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the forward security post Pos Dogoton on Pulau Banggi today to review Malaysia’s border preparedness with the Philippines, just hours after attending the ASEAN Summit in the neighbouring country.
Pos Dogoton serves as a critical frontline outpost along the Malaysia-Philippines maritime border, playing a vital role in protecting northern Sabah waters from intrusions, smuggling, and cross-border crimes. During the visit, Anwar received an operational briefing from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) before inspecting nearby island areas and the post’s radar systems, a key asset for maritime security monitoring.
In a statement shared on X, Anwar praised the dedication of ATM personnel stationed in the isolated location.
“Assignments in remote areas with challenging terrain and weather demand high mental resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit,” he said. “My highest appreciation goes to the Malaysian Armed Forces team assigned to safeguard national sovereignty at Pos Dogoton.”
He added that the troops’ steadfastness, courage, and constant readiness in defending every inch of the nation’s waters represent a rarely visible sacrifice that ensures peace and security for all Malaysians.
The working visit to Malaysia’s largest island also included broader development initiatives. Anwar announced a special allocation of more than RM31 million to drive infrastructure and socio-economic progress on Pulau Banggi, aimed at narrowing the rural-urban gap and ensuring isolated communities are not left behind.
Among the projects is an RM1 million upgrade to the Kampung Dogoton jetty for use by villagers and enforcement agencies, alongside improvements to roads and bridges in several villages including Kampung Limbuak Laut, Kapitangan, Damaran, and Bayangan.
Anwar later visited SMK Banggi, reflecting on his trip to the island 32 years ago in November 1994 when he officiated the school’s groundbreaking ceremony. He interacted with students and emphasised the Madani Government’s commitment to inclusive development even in the most remote corners of the country.
The Prime Minister described Pulau Banggi as an example of how the government takes responsibility for marginally poor and isolated communities.
This visit underscores the government’s dual focus on strengthening national security in strategic border areas while accelerating development for frontier communities under the #MalaysiaMADANI agenda.
