KUALA LUMPUR, April 28, 2026 – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced a RM602 million allocation for river conservation projects spanning 2026 to 2030.
The funding will support technical works under the Short-Term Structural Approach (Pendekatan Struktur Jangka Pendek). These initiatives are designed to strengthen preparedness and ensure the smooth operation of the national flood mitigation system, particularly in areas frequently hit by flash floods.
The announcement was made via PETRA’s official X account as part of the “Rancakkan MADANI” campaign under the broader Malaysia MADANI framework. It references an earlier statement in the Dewan Rakyat on October 29, 2025.
“An allocation of RM602 million has been provided for the period 2026 to 2030 for the River Conservation Project. This project, which consists of technical works under the Short-Term Structural Approach, is crucial to ensure preparedness and the efficiency of the flood mitigation system across the country, especially in areas frequently affected by flash floods,” the ministry stated.
The move underscores the government’s continued commitment to sustainable water resource management and disaster resilience as part of its economic and environmental agenda.
