April 27, 2026 – Malaysia’s Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir has firmly refuted claims that the Malaysian government supplied diesel to the Philippines, describing the reports as inaccurate.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Johor Bahru MP revealed that he held a virtual meeting with Philippine Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin to discuss regional and global energy security.
During the discussion, the controversial claims regarding Malaysian diesel supplies were addressed. Secretary Garin personally denied the reports, while Minister Akmal conveyed Malaysia’s official position on the matter.
“PETRONAS has denied any involvement in fuel supply agreements with any Philippine government agencies. Any reports linking it are inaccurate,” said Minister Akmal.
He stressed that Malaysia must continue to prioritise domestic energy supply security, especially amid the current challenging geopolitical climate.
Regarding the reported shipment of 329,000 tonnes of diesel linked to Malaysia, the minister clarified that the transaction was a purely commercial deal handled by a Singapore-based international trading company — not a government-to-government supply from Malaysia.
Minister Akmal encouraged the public to watch the full video he shared for further details. The clip includes his direct comments on the issue, bilateral cooperation, and ASEAN-level energy collaboration.
This clarification follows earlier denials by PETRONAS and the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) in response to Philippine media reports about the diesel delivery.
Malaysia and the Philippines remain committed to strengthening energy cooperation within the ASEAN framework while ensuring transparency on energy-related matters.
