PENANG April 21, 2026 – The Democratic Action Party (DAP) officially kicked off its diamond jubilee celebrations with the Perhimpunan Pelancaran DAP60: Malaysia Untuk Rakyat Malaysia (DAP60 Launch Gathering: Malaysia for the Malaysian People) on April 19, 2026, in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
The event brought together party leaders, grassroots members, and supporters to mark 60 years since the DAP’s founding in 1966. It served as a powerful reminder of the party’s journey from its early days as an opposition force to its current role in Malaysia’s unity government.
Digital Minister and DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo, who shared highlights of the gathering on X (formerly Twitter), posted a video montage of the evening featuring enthusiastic crowds, leaders in DAP’s signature white-and-red attire, ribbon-cutting ceremonies with red-and-white balloons, award presentations, and speeches.
In a key address captured in the video and shared by Gobind, a senior leader reflected on the party’s milestone:
“Sixty years we have fought. Sixty years we have now succeeded. Now we have to think of the way forward. It is not easy. We must ask ourselves how we too can fit into this change that is impacting on not just the politics of this country, but even society as it develops.”
The message underscored DAP’s resolve to evolve while staying true to its core principles of multiracialism, justice, and service to all Malaysians.
Prominent DAP figures including former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook (Minister of Transport) were among those who addressed the gathering. The programme also included group photographs of national and state leaders, symbolic gestures of unity, and tributes to long-serving members.
DAP60 is expected to feature a series of nationwide programmes throughout 2026, aimed at reconnecting with the rakyat, engaging younger generations, and reinforcing the party’s commitment to building a united, strong, and prosperous Malaysia for all.
The official theme, Malaysia Untuk Rakyat Malaysia, echoes the party’s long-standing vision of an inclusive nation that belongs to every Malaysian regardless of race, religion, or background.
As the celebrations begin, DAP leaders have called on members and supporters to view the 60th anniversary not merely as a commemoration of the past, but as a renewed pledge to face future challenges together.
