PENANG April 21, 2026 – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has urged Malaysians to reflect deeply on the country’s political future, calling for a decisive shift away from “assabiyah” (tribal or ethnic chauvinism) towards a results-driven approach that puts the people first.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, the DAP leader and Teluk Intan MP declared: “When we face global crises, this is the time for us to reflect on ourselves. Do we still want to be shackled by assabiyah thinking, or dare we make changes towards politics based on work and results? Malaysia for the Malaysian people.”
The passionate appeal was delivered during what appears to be a recent DAP event marking the party’s 60th anniversary. Standing at a podium against a red backdrop emblazoned with the slogan “Langkah Demi Langkah Kita Perjuang Jua” (Step by Step We Also Struggle), Nga was seen gesturing emphatically as he addressed the crowd. A banner in the footage read “60 Tahun DAP Parti Keramat Berbakti Kepada Rakyat – NKM” (60 Years DAP – A Sacred Party Serving the People – NKM).
Nga’s message comes at a time when Malaysia continues to navigate complex domestic and international challenges, including economic pressures and geopolitical tensions. Political observers note that his remarks echo the unity government’s long-standing push for a more inclusive, merit-based national narrative that transcends race and religion.
The minister, who also serves as President of the UN-Habitat General Assembly, has consistently advocated for governance focused on delivery and people-centric policies rather than identity politics.
The full 86-second clip has already begun circulating widely on social media, drawing early reactions from netizens who echoed the call for a united, forward-looking Malaysia.
Nga Kor Ming’s latest statement reinforces his position as one of the leading voices within the Pakatan Harapan component pushing for long-term political reform in the country.
