PUTRAJAYA, April 21, 2026 – Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, has stressed the urgent need to strengthen the nation’s digital defences against quantum computing threats, describing the technology as a double-edged sword that could revolutionise processing power while simultaneously upending global cybersecurity.
In a statement issued today, the Minister noted that the world has entered an era of disruptive technologies, with quantum computing standing out as one of the most significant developments.
“Walaupun ia mampu memacu kuasa pemprosesan yang luar biasa, ia juga mampu mengubah landskap keselamatan digital global dengan drastik,” he said.
He praised the Malaysian Network Information Centre (MYNIC) for its timely initiative in organising the programme titled “Preparing for Tomorrow’s Threat: The Impact of Quantum Computing on Internet Society”, which aims to equip stakeholders with knowledge to tackle emerging risks.
Gobind further highlighted the importance of protecting the Domain Name System (DNS) by replacing vulnerable cryptographic protocols in DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) that are susceptible to quantum attacks.
“I am very proud of the collaborative efforts between MYNIC and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) through the DNSSEC training programme, which has successfully trained more than 200 participants from the government, industry, and academia,” he added.
The Minister called on all stakeholders – government, private sector, and academia – to work together in preserving Malaysia’s digital ecosystem.
“Ayuh bersama-sama kita jadikan Malaysia negara yang berdaya tahan, selamat, dan dipercayai dalam ruang digital global,” he urged.
The remarks were made during an event held at Le Méridien Putrajaya, with involvement from Multimedia University, where the Minister also engaged with participants and presented recognitions as part of MYNIC’s ongoing efforts to build national cyber resilience.
The initiative aligns with Malaysia’s broader #MalaysiaMADANI vision and the #AINation push to position the country as a secure and forward-looking digital hub in the face of rapid technological change.#Cybersecurity #QuantumComputing
