SEGAMAT, 19 April 2026 – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil yesterday personally visited and handed over a contribution from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA to former Harian Metro journalist Ahmad Ismail at his home here.
Ahmad, 67, served the daily for 25 years from 1999 until his retirement in 2024. He has been battling multiple health conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure since 2012, as well as a nerve disorder and slipped disc since 2018.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative by the Ministry of Communications channelled through BERNAMA. It was launched in April 2023 during the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebrations.
To date, the fund has assisted 725 media practitioners nationwide, underscoring the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to the welfare of journalists and media workers, especially those facing hardship.
Also present at the visit were Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and BERNAMA Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
The aid was announced in an official statement issued by the HAWANA 2026 Secretariat.
