CYBERJAYA, 14 April 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has fully restored 14 telecommunication towers following acts of vandalism and theft that disrupted 2G and 4G services in the Kuala Pilah area of Negeri Sembilan.
According to an official media statement issued today, MCMC received a report from CelcomDigi Berhad on Saturday, 11 April 2026, regarding service outages affecting the surrounding area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the disruption originated from vandalism and theft at a single CelcomDigi communication tower located at Bukit Pilah.
The incident not only damaged the primary tower but also impacted 13 additional towers, leaving nearly 1,668 users from various telecommunications service providers without reliable connectivity.
MCMC, in collaboration with CelcomDigi, conducted an on-site inspection and confirmed that critical equipment — including the Radio Transport System (RTS) and Baseband Unit (BBU) — had been stolen. This led to widespread service interruptions in the vicinity.
CelcomDigi promptly carried out restoration works in stages. As of today, all 14 affected towers are back in full operation and providing services to users once again.
In the statement, MCMC urged members of the public to play their part by immediately reporting any suspicious activities near telecommunication towers to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) or relevant authorities.
“MCMC will not compromise on any actions that jeopardise communication infrastructure,” the statement emphasised. Vandalism against telecommunication facilities is a serious offence under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, punishable by a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
The official statement was accompanied by photographs showing the extent of the vandalism, including damaged equipment and wiring at the Bukit Pilah site.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments in this case.
