GEORGE TOWN, April 11, 2026 – The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH), together with the #TangkapAzamBaki Secretariat, has launched the first leg of its nationwide Jelajah Ceramah (lecture tour) in Penang to mobilise public support against alleged corruption and politicisation at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, BERSIH announced the new venue for the event scheduled at 6pm today: COEX @ Kilang Besi (also known as Hinbus Depot), located at 123, Jalan Timah, 10150 George Town, Pulau Pinang.
The original venue at Penang Digital Library was cancelled at the last minute, reportedly due to the programme touching on “sensitive issues”.
“If this new location is also blocked or cancelled, the #TangkapAzamBaki Secretariat will continue the jelajah on the roadside,” the announcement stated.
The poster accompanying the post urges Malaysians to attend, declaring: “Rasuah adalah bencana, melawannya adalah satu ibadah” (Corruption is a disaster; fighting it is an act of worship). It lists confirmed speakers including activist Hishamuddin Rais, BERSIH’s Asraf Sharafi, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM)’s Choo Chon Kai, Teoh Beng Hock Association’s Chong En Qi, Kota Siputeh assemblyman Ashraf Mustaqim, and student leaders.
The #TangkapAzamBaki campaign has been gaining momentum following allegations that MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki held undeclared shares worth millions of ringgit – claims first highlighted by Bloomberg and later echoed by lawmakers and civil society groups. Critics, including BERSIH, have accused the MACC of being weaponised for political intimidation and have demanded Azam’s immediate resignation along with a full independent investigation.
This Penang ceramah marks the opening stop of the lecture tour, with the next leg planned for Kelantan on 17 April. The series is seen as a build-up to a major public demonstration scheduled for 25 April at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
BERSIH and the secretariat have called on students, youths, and all Malaysians to join the effort to restore public confidence in anti-corruption institutions.
The full announcement can be viewed on BERSIH’s official X account (@bersihofficial).
