PENGKALAN HULU April 12, 2026 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today continued his inspection of border control operations at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) Bukit Berapit, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak — one of the key entry and exit points between Malaysia and Thailand.
He stressed that this route plays a vital role in safeguarding national security. The Bukit Berapit ICQS is part of the 122 Malaysia-Thailand border entry points currently still under the supervision of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
“Insya-Allah, its operations will be progressively taken over by the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) to further strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of national border control,” said Saifuddin Nasution.
During the visit, the Minister also had the opportunity to interact with several users entering and exiting through this border checkpoint while directly listening to their views and experiences.
This inspection reflects the clear commitment of the MADANI Government to continuously empower, strengthen, and enhance national border control. These ongoing efforts aim to combat smuggling activities, particularly those involving controlled goods, and remain one of the priorities of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) in addressing the challenges of the Global Energy Crisis.
In addition, Saifuddin Nasution announced that the construction of the new Bukit Berapit ICQS is currently at the feasibility study stage with an allocation of RM2 million. The study covers aspects of location, design, and traveller movement flow to ensure a more efficient and secure border control system.
Currently, AKPS has taken over control of 22 out of the 122 national border entry points, with plans for progressive takeover, including at Bukit Berapit, being implemented.
This inspection is in line with the government’s efforts to bolster land border security, especially in tackling the smuggling of fuel and other controlled goods in border areas.
