ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN April 12, 2026 – High-level peace talks between the United States and Iran concluded without an agreement following nearly 21 hours of intensive discussions mediated by Pakistan.
US Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation, confirmed the outcome, stating that Iran had rejected the US’s “final and best offer,” particularly on curbing its nuclear program.
“We have been at it now for 21 hours… substantive discussions… The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement. And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States,” Vance said.
Iranian officials described the marathon talks as “intensive” but accused the United States of making excessive and unlawful demands.
The negotiations, hosted in Islamabad, were part of efforts to extend a fragile two-week ceasefire amid the ongoing US/Israel-Iran conflict. Pakistan, acting as mediator, has urged both sides to maintain the ceasefire and expressed readiness to continue facilitating dialogue.
