PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA April 1, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today warned that the prolonged conflict in West Asia is now visibly disrupting global supply chains, particularly energy, pushing Malaysia into a “new and extremely challenging phase.”
In a detailed statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar stressed that “it is no longer business as usual” and revealed that the government has already activated several proactive steps to secure energy supply, stabilise the economy, and protect the rakyat’s welfare.
Among the immediate measures announced:
- More frequent National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meetings involving representatives from industry, fishermen, farmers and related sectors to formulate follow-up actions.
- Cancellation of federal-level Aidilfitri open houses as a cost-saving initiative.
- Temporary adjustment of the BUDI95 petrol quota to 200 litres per month.
- Strict enforcement of limits on subsidised diesel filling in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
- Work-from-Home (BDR) policy for civil servants and eligible agencies starting 15 April 2026 to reduce fuel consumption.
Anwar revealed that the government has so far channelled RM4 billion through the Inisiatif Sokongan Rakyat to cushion the impact of the global energy crisis. As a result, Malaysians continue to enjoy RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, while eligible businesses, fishermen and other groups still receive diesel subsidies.
The Prime Minister also announced intensified efforts to diversify the country’s energy sources to ensure long-term supply security.
However, Anwar strongly condemned parties spreading fake news to create confusion purely for “cheap political gain and narrow political survival,” describing such actions as a “betrayal to the nation.”
He called on all Malaysians to exercise wisdom, discipline and collective responsibility during these trying times, expressing confidence that the government’s ongoing efforts will safeguard economic stability, energy supply and the people’s well-being.
The statement ends with the hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI #MADANIbekerja #YakinMADANI.
The video accompanying the post shows Anwar delivering the message directly to the public.
This is the latest in a series of government interventions as global oil prices remain volatile due to the West Asia conflict. Life News will continue to monitor developments and any further announcements from the Prime Minister’s Office.
