PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA March 5, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired a high-level meeting with the top management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) at Wisma Tani earlier today, focusing on the nation’s food supply readiness in light of ongoing conflicts in West Asia.
During the session, Anwar was briefed on the latest initiatives and challenges facing the ministry, including measures to ensure uninterrupted food supplies despite geopolitical unrest sparked by the Zionist regime of Israel and the United States. He expressed relief that Malaysia’s primary food staples, particularly rice, remain unaffected, as the involved nations do not significantly contribute to the country’s imports.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, also known as Mat Sabu, echoed this sentiment, confirming that the US-Iran conflict has not impacted Malaysia’s food security. The ministry emphasized continuous monitoring of global developments, underscoring that food security is a critical priority that cannot be compromised.
Anwar also reviewed progress on development projects aimed at creating a more conducive ecosystem for boosting agricultural productivity in Malaysia. He directed KPKM to adhere strictly to project timelines, highlighting the importance of these efforts in reducing dependency on imported goods and strengthening national self-sufficiency.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister joined approximately 350 KPKM staff for the Ihya’ Ramadan programme, where he performed Zuhur prayers alongside ministry personnel. Anwar praised the commitment of the ministry’s team in safeguarding the nation’s food security for the benefit of all Malaysians.
This engagement aligns with the government’s broader #MalaysiaMADANI agenda, promoting collaborative and proactive governance to address key national issues.
