CYBERJAYA, MALAYSIA March 2, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is taking firm action against the recirculation of an old 2024 video showing an incident of insult against the Islamic religion involving a Singaporean citizen, including the act of stomping on the Al-Quran.
According to MCMC’s media statement issued today, the Commission has received numerous complaints from members of the public about the video content, which is believed to have been re-uploaded on social media platforms, sparking concern and tension within the community.
“Based on preliminary investigations, the individual involved is believed to be a Singaporean citizen, and the incident is also believed to have occurred in Singapore,” the statement said.
In response, MCMC is working closely with the relevant social media platforms — Threads, Facebook, and TikTok — to ensure appropriate action is taken, including blocking the spread and access to the content in Malaysia.
MCMC stressed that any dissemination of content touching on religious sensitivities and with the potential to threaten the harmony of Malaysia’s multi-racial society is an irresponsible act and may be subject to legal action under the applicable laws.
Members of the public are strongly advised not to upload, share, or redistribute the content.
Any related information can be forwarded to MCMC via the link https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my or to the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) for further action.
The media statement was also accompanied by a screenshot attachment of the Republic of Singapore Identity Card belonging to the individual involved (image censored).
The full MCMC statement can be viewed on their official website.
