KUANTAN, PAHANG, MALAYSIA March 2, 2026 – Pahang Police have confirmed that the local suspect arrested for uploading a photo depicting someone stepping on the Al-Quran on social media will remain in remand until 3 March 2026 to complete the investigation.
In a media statement issued last night, Pahang Police Chief CP Dato’ Sri Yahaya bin Othman said the suspect, who was detained since 25 February 2026, was initially remanded until 28 February 2026. The remand order was subsequently extended from 1 March 2026 until 3 March 2026.
“The case has been classified and is being investigated under three sections: Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 298 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he stated.
To date, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has received a total of 62 police reports from across the country regarding the circulation of the photo, while statements from 43 witnesses have been recorded to assist in the investigation.
The investigation file is expected to be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers on 2 March 2026 for further advice and directives in line with Article 145 of the Federal Constitution.
Dato’ Sri Yahaya advised the public not to make any speculations or issue statements that could inflame the situation and affect public order or religious sensitivities.
“PDRM will conduct the investigation in a transparent, professional and fair manner and will not compromise with any party that tries to undermine national harmony and security,” he emphasised.

The case has attracted widespread attention after the photo, which is considered insulting to Islam, went viral on social media platforms, sparking anger among netizens nationwide.
