ISLAMABAD March 1, 2026 – Pakistan has issued a strong and balanced condemnation of the recent military escalation in the Middle East, denouncing both the initial “unwarranted attacks” on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory strikes on several Gulf countries.
In a statement delivered during an emergency briefing of the United Nations Security Council under the agenda item “The Situation in the Middle East (Iran)” on February 28, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, called for maximum restraint and a return to diplomacy.
“Pakistan condemns the initiation of unwarranted attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in violation of international law. Yet again, these attacks come at a time when renewed diplomatic efforts were underway to reach a peaceful and negotiated solution. Such a course of action will undermine the peace and stability of the entire region, with far-reaching consequences,” Ambassador Ahmad stated.
Pakistan also explicitly condemned the subsequent attacks launched by Iran against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
“Pakistan also condemns the attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and stands in solidarity with all these brotherly countries and underscores the need to exercise maximum restraint,” the statement added.
The remarks follow reports of major US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets earlier on February 28, which prompted Iranian missile and drone retaliation against Israel and US-linked facilities across the Gulf region.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier released a similar statement regretting the “breakdown of talks and outbreak of hostilities” and urging an immediate halt to escalation through urgent resumption of diplomacy.

Pakistan’s position underscores its consistent advocacy for sovereignty, respect for international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes in the Muslim world and beyond, while maintaining strong fraternal ties with both Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
