PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA February 2, 2026 – Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh has highlighted the value of thorough research and evidence-based approaches in policymaking, rejecting any fear towards conducting studies grounded in facts and data.
In her reflection shared today in conjunction with Federal Territory Day on 2 February 2026, Hannah Yeoh posted on social media, posing the question: “Why fear studies?” (Kenapa takut dengan kajian?)
She outlined several reasons why studies should be embraced rather than feared:
1. Higher education teaches us to investigate and understand issues in depth through comprehensive research, not merely to pass examinations.
2. Accurate and convincing decisions require precise data and solid facts.
3. That is why I greatly value the learning process during my pursuit of a Bachelor of Laws degree. It was there that I learned to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of any policy.
4. Weighing the “pros and cons” enables careful decision-making, saving time and energy by avoiding unproductive efforts and preventing mistakes.
5. Studies make us wiser. Research is a process for achieving better decisions. Therefore, never fear studies.
6. Moreover, wisdom is a crucial element for a responsible leader guiding the people.
Hannah Yeoh concluded her reflection by stating: “Therefore, never fear studies. In fact, wisdom is an important element for a responsible leader in leading the people.”
The post is seen as timely, aligning with her earlier directives to conduct feasibility studies on administrative matters in the Federal Territories, such as proposals related to the election of the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, which have sparked public discussion.
As the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh continues to advocate for evidence-based governance in urban administration, consistent with the spirit of Federal Territory Day celebrations that emphasize inclusive and people-centered development.
The reflection has received positive attention from netizens who appreciate the rational and informed approach to leadership.
