BBC World Questions: Malaysia Edition – A Bold and Brilliant Discussion

The wait is over! The recording of BC World Questions: Malaysia Edition is finally here, and it’s nothing short of remarkable. After my chat with producer Charlie Taylor, I’ll admit I was a bit nervous. Would the audience bring tough, thought-provoking questions? Or would we be stuck rehashing the same tired topics that dominate headlines, leaving me thinking, “Here we go again”?

Well, Malaysia, you blew me away! The audience, panellists, and the entire show exceeded all expectations.

We dove into a whirlwind of pressing issues: the skyrocketing cost of living, U.S. tariffs, Malaysia’s relationship with China, and the need for safe spaces to openly discuss race, religion, and privilege.

The conversation didn’t shy away from heavy topics like freedom of expression, women’s rights, minority rights, trans and queers, and even the thought of “menggugat keharmonian negara” (threatening national harmony). No stone was left unturned.

I’m beyond proud of my fellow Malaysians for stepping up and speaking out. You brought your A-game, and it shows. This is a discussion that sparks reflection and inspires action. Kudos to everyone involved – you’ve truly made your voices heard!

Malaysia, you’ve spoken, and the world is listening!
