PAS Youth’s Protest Shift Sparks Criticism from AMH Leader

MALAYSIA, Kuala Lumpur, June 15, 2025 – Angkatan Muda HARAPAN (AMH) chief,  Woo Kah Leong, has slammed PAS Youth for abruptly changing their planned protest against the Urban Redevelopment Act (PSB) to a “Turun Anwar” rally targeting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The shift, Woo claims, exposes PAS and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) lack of clear direction and their tendency to oppose for the sake of opposition.

In a scathing statement, AMH accused PAS of using the rally not to address public policy or defend the rakyat, but to flex its political muscle within PN. Woo alleged that PAS is exploiting the event to overshadow its coalition partner, Parti Pribumi Bersatu (BERSATU), amid internal power struggles.

“PAS Youth initially rallied against the PSB, an act yet to be tabled or debated in Parliament, but now they’ve pivoted to attacking the Prime Minister. This proves PAS lacks depth in public policy and is merely riding on issues for political gain,” Woo said.

He further criticized PAS for failing to provide concrete reasons for opposing the PSB, which he described as a policy designed to benefit Malaysia’s multiracial population. “Unable to justify their stance, PAS took the easy route—shifting the rally’s focus to create a new enemy and distract from their inability to engage on policy,” Woo added.

Woo also highlighted the irony of PAS Youth’s “Turun Anwar” slogan, pointing out PN’s failure to unite behind a single Prime Minister candidate.

“Do they back Hadi Awang, Muhyiddin Yassin, or Hamzah Zainudin? PN’s disarray is clear—they can’t even agree on a leader,” he quipped.

AMH further accused PAS of orchestrating the rally as a political stunt to assert dominance within PN. With PAS controlling all Menteri Besar posts in PN-governed states and holding the most parliamentary seats in the coalition,

Woo described the rally as a “political sandiwara” to strengthen PAS’s grip and curb BERSATU’s influence.

Woo painted a picture of a fractured PN, lacking a cohesive governance agenda at both federal and state levels.

“Instead of shouting ‘Turun Anwar,’ PN should hold internal meetings to decide on their Prime Minister candidate,” he urged.

While acknowledging the public’s right to assemble, AMH reiterated that Malaysians deserve better than PAS’s “self-serving political tactics” that fail to address  the people’s needs.
