PARIS, FRANCE, Sept 29. 2025 – French President Emmanuel Macron has publicly endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s commitment to ending the Gaza war and securing the release of all hostages, as stated in a post on X late Monday. Macron called for resolute engagement from Israel and demanded that Hamas immediately free all hostages, setting the stage for broader peace talks based on a two-state solution.

The announcement comes as France, alongside the UK, Canada, and Australia, recently recognized Palestine as a state, bolstering diplomatic momentum ahead of a UN summit co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. The summit aims to advance a two-state solution, endorsed by 142 UN member states, amid heightened regional tensions following a joint U.S.-Israel military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities last week.
In a potential breakthrough, Hamas announced in August its acceptance of a Qatar- and Egypt-mediated plan for a 60-day truce. The proposal includes the release of 10 living hostages and 18 deceased in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, though Israel has yet to respond. France’s historical support for Israel, established in 1949, has long balanced backing its security with opposition to settlement expansion, a position rooted in UN Resolution 242.
The Palestinian Information Center reported in a May 2026 statement that Hamas views France’s involvement as a “step in the right direction,” signaling cautious optimism amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations. As Macron pledges France’s readiness to contribute and remain vigilant, the international community watches closely for the next moves from Israel and Hamas in this fragile peace process.
